For the old hands who come along every year, you will see that we have increased some of the entry fees. This has come about due to increased charges and costs combined with a tightening of the belts with some sponsors over the years.

Event 1. “Rotary Club of Carnoustie” Practice Chanter (under 13 years)
Two parts of a Quick March (Own time signature).
Event 2. Practice Chanter (13-16 years inclusive) (Dependent on number of entries)
Two parts Slow Air and one four parted 2/4 Quick March.
Event 3. Novice Bagpipes (Under 13)
One four part 2/4 Quick March.
Event 4. “Reekie Engineering” - Novice Bagpipes (13-16 years inclusive)
Two parts Slow Air and one four parted 2/4 Quick March.
“Under 13 Scottish Champion 2008”

Event 5a Under 13 Champion March, Strathspey & Reel - Bagpipes
Minimum requirement. One four parted 2/4 March, two-part Strathspey and two-part Reel.
Event 5b “The Practical Pipers” Under 13 Piobaireachd Champion
Own choice of Piobaireachd
Event 6. Intermediate 13 - 16 years March, Strathspey & Reel
Minimum requirement. Four parted 2/4 March, Four parted Strathspey and four parted Reel.

“Scottish Junior Champion - 2008”

We are hoping that this year again, the winner will again be travelling to Canada
in November to compete in the
Competitors must successfully complete the following two requirements:
“MacKay's of Carnoustie” Junior Champion (13-16 years inclusive)
March, Strathspey and Reel (Each with a minimum of four parts).
Junior Piobaireachd Champion (13-16 years inclusive)
Own choice of Piobaireachd.
Event 8
“Champion of Champions 2008”

(Previous Winners and by Invitation)
Each competitor shall submit two 2/4 Marches, two Strathspeys, one of each to be nominated by the adjudicators at the time of performance, and their Own choice of Reel. (All of with a minimum of four parts)
Each Competitor shall submit Two Piobaireachd from which, the adjudicators shall nominate one and the performer notified in advance of final tuning.

Code of Conduct:
All tunes shall be played from memory.
All entrants, with the exception of those in Events 5 & 7, are restricted to ONE EVENT ONLY, in their own age group on the day of the contest.
The title “Scottish Junior Champion” and “Scottish Under 13 Champion” will be decided by a points system covering both skills in “Events 5 & 7”. To withdraw from one section of Event 7 only, means automatic withdrawal from both parts. In the event of a tie, the outcome shall be dependant upon the performers final Piobaireachd place.
“Events 1 and 2” are intended for genuine learners as a means of encouragement.
A “Novice Piper” is defined as, “A piper who, by the closing date, has never been placed First in ANY solo piping contest”.
Entries must be lodged with the “Executive Officer” by 1st August, annually, and must be accompanied by
The proper entry fee.
£3 for each Chanter event
£4 each for events 3, 4, 5a & 5b
£8 for Event 7
A self addressed and stamped envelope
The “Champion of Champions” is for previous “Scottish” winners and/or by invitation of the organisers.
Trophies and Shields will be signed for on the day and retained for ten months, or returned when required by the organisers.
Only the competitor and his/her tutor will be permitted in the tuning area and rooms. There will be no exceptions in this matter.
The organisers reserve the right to demand evidence of the age of any competitor in classes where age is a qualification.
Any objections shall be in writing on the day of the competition and accompanied by a £15 administration fee, which may be returnable if upheld.
The Executive Officer's decision will be final in all matters.
