He </div> <div> was a Pipe Major in the 1st Battalion of the Black Watch </div> <div> and spent some time in India around 1920. He was also </div> <div> the pipe major of the only Masonic pipe band in Britain - </div> <div> Lodge Camperdown in Dundee.  Tommy taught piping right</div> <div> up until the time he died.     One of his pupils was Willie </div> <div> Dickson who was Pipe Major of the MacKenzie Caledonian </div> <div> band and also a great solo piper and also played a lot on </div> <div> the highland dancing circuit. One of his contemporaries </div> <div> was Bert Gillanders who founded Gillanders' Bagpipes in </div> <div> Forfar.</div> </NOBR></tD> </tR> <tR> <tD VALIGN=TOP HEIGHT= 112 WIDTH="175"><div> <B>Don McLeod</B></div> </tD> <tD VALIGN=TOP><NOBR><div> He came from Edinburgh to Dundee and worked in the </div> <div> Courier during which time he founder of the little known </div> <div> Courier & Post Office Pipe Band. He was born in Dundee on 14 May 1886.</div> <div> "Swordie", as he was known, served in the 4th Battalion </div> <div> Black Watch as a Pipe Major during the First World War. </div> <div> Following the War, he returned to the 24th Boys Brigade </div> <div> and continued his teaching. Upon return to civilian life he </div> <div> rejoined Jute Industries Limited, at Bow Bridge Works, </div> <div> where in time he became a Mill Manager. In the early 1950 </div> <div> he was one of the founder members of Jute Industries Pipe</div> <div> Band. He was their Pipe Major until his retirement from the</div> <div> Band on 31 August 1955. </div> <div> Elsewhere on the site, you will find a photo of this band.</div> <div> Swordie also had a long association with the Boys Brigade</div> <div> and in particular 24th Coy of Dundee B.B.          In fact he </div> <div> taught the pipes to B.B.
