Gordon Bruce

   Gordon is to be congratulated on gaining a 1st Class pass in his Honours year at the the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where he rubs shoulders with all the right people. It should be noted that in the eleven year that this course has been running, his First Class Pass is only one of four during that time, and is the first Piping "First Class".

   He once thought he was practicing OK. Now he is faced with thinking really seriously about his music and ability, plus making it blend with other instruments etc.  He also faces a busy time satisfying the needs of Jimmy Banks, Gavin Stoddart and Roddy MacLeod at the National Piping Centre on a daily basis.

2006 saw Gordon make a move to Grade One by joining "The Power of Scotland" just at a time when Roddy MacLeod

stepped aside to allow Chris Armstrong to take over and perhaps now make his own mark.

BROOMIELAW

Gordon is now in his fourth year at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and is also now very busy

with his young ceilidh band "Broomielaw.  The group of RSAMD Graduates are available for all kinds of functions

such as wedding, ceilidh dances and parties.

Two Happy Graduates

The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama

This week I had a visit from two highly telented musicians.

Steven Nelson is a drummer with The Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia

while Gordon Bruce is a piper with The Power of Scotland.

Both have just successfully completed a very hard fours years

B.A. course at the RSAMD and have been awarded First Class fourth year honours passes.

In the eleven years since these courses started, there has only been two other students

to attain "1st Class Honours" but these to young men have gone further by being the

first Piper and the first Highland Drummer to gain this distinction.

Steven  is now based in Falkirk and his first position will be alongside me

from August at Craigclowan School, Perth. He is also working in an

Ayrshire school with Gordon Walker.

Gordon has just been awarded a part time Piping tutor position in Edinburgh

Schools, Leader/Pipe Major to West Lothian Schools whilst doing

Piping Tuition Supply work  in Dundee.
