It is with great sadness that I have to tell you of the death of Pipe Major Rob Hoogenhout, who passed away in his sleep on the morning of Wednesday 22nd September 2010.
For some years now, Rob has been fighting Cancer and it took it's toll, but not on his character. In many Scottish homes, we would see in Hogmany, have a dram and then waited for the Hoogenhout phone call, even as the bells were still ringing out.
"MacHoogie" was a well known, respected and highly accomplished Piper, teacher and advisor especially in the Netherlands. Quite simply he was one of the main "Grafters" in an area where Pping is as busy as ever these days. Rob was a stickler for getting it right and many Pipers and Pipe Bands have him to thank for their progress and skill.
Rob had many friends around the Scottish Circuit, and when the Hoogenhout caravan hit the road in summer, there was only one purpose..Scotland, the Games and his friends here.
At the funeral service on Tuesday 28th September in Zwolle a piping tribute was played by Josien Teerlink his "adopted niece" (in-joke with Rob).
Our thoughts are with his wife Lia, his children Kristel and Roddy and his brand new grandchild Noa of only two weeks.
Here is a translation of the tribute from the Netherlands Pipe Band Association
The article just released in Netherlands.
