Mock Exam One
Over the weeks, we have taken a condensed look at the theory side of sound, notes, pitch and music. So far you have been let off comparatively lightly, but now I'm going to put down some of the subject matter and find out if some of it has reached you.
Write down what the following words mean to you in terms of music:-
What is SOUND?
What is a NOTE?
What is PITCH?
What are the three elements of MUSICAL SOUND?
Now lets take a look at note values.
In the following examples, I want you to look at the notes of the left side of the page and write a ONE note equivalent beside each.
Next, let's turn to the thorny problem of Time.
How many kinds of time are there?
Name them.
How can these be subdivided?
Look at the following Time Signatures and tell whether they are simple or compound, how many beats there are in the bar,
and the value of the beat not (or it's equivalent)
Simple/Compound 2 / 3 / 4 …………………………
Simple/Compound 2 / 3 / 4 …………………………
Simple/Compound 2 / 3 / 4 …………………………
Simple/Compound 2 / 3 / 4 …………………………
Simple/Compound 2 / 3 / 4 …………………………
Simple/Compound 2 / 3 / 4 …………………………
Simple/Compound 2 / 3 / 4 …………………………
In this section, I want you to examine the bar of music,
and from the information available draw in the missing note(s).
This time, I am going to provide you with the notes,
but you will have to decide what the correct time signature is and right it in.
